Anupam B. Jena, MD, PhD is a University of Chicago–trained economist and Harvard medical school professor and doctor. Dr. Jena hosts the wildly popular Freakonomics, MD podcast, which explores the hidden side of health care.
He practices medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, and his research and writing have been published by the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post.
He is also the author of “Random Acts of Medicine: the Hidden Forces that Sway Doctors, Impact Patients, and Shape Our Health.”
As an economist and physician, Dr. Jena’s research involves several areas of health economics and policy including the use of natural experiments in health care, the economics of physician behavior and the physician workforce, medical malpractice, the economics of health care productivity, and the economics of medical innovation.
